I started playing guitar in 1976, after hearing Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do." I was captivated. That sound and the emotions it stirred in me put me on a course that will last a lifetime.

In 1983, I attended the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, CA to fill a growing gap between what I could play and what I knew about music intellectually. Those years at music school brought it all together for me and made it clear that, in one way or another, musicians must incorporate the mathematical beauty of the language they speak in order to deepen and enrich their relationship with their instrument.

After I finished music school, I moved to Santa Fe, NM, where I played guitar professionally for 14 years. I played in a number of bands, ranging from reggae to jazz, funk and blues. I also taught music theory, ensemble and guitar at the College of Santa Fe from 1993 through 1997. A few highlights of my career as a musician have been opening for Jimmy Cliff at the Paolo Soleri outdoor amphitheater in Santa Fe as well as opening for both Carlos Santana and Phish in Santa Fe.

While I stopped playing professionally some time ago, my deep love for the guitar, music theory, and teaching have endured. I find myself at the intersection of those passions and a digital reality that makes it possible to share what I love with a vast community of other guitarists and musicians. I am humbled by the welcome I’ve received so far and hope to inspire current and future guitarists to dig into the limitless world of music theory.

I currently live in Denver with my wife and teenage children and, in addition to teaching on the internet, I play guitar with some of my dearest friends in a local funk band, “Park Hill Jam”.
